HARI RAYA(Eid al-Fitr)

Hari Raya is one of the main event in Tawau because majority citizen in Tawau is Muslim.Hari Raya is also known as the Feast of breaking fast.At the first morning of Hari Raya Aidilfitri,the muslim will go to mosque to perform solat Hari Raya and consisting of two rakaat and has an additional six takbir.Its celebration is mainly continue for seven days.

Bugis is one of the main races in Tawau.Not in Tawau only but it is also one of the biggest races in all of Sabah.The picture above shows you the Bugis traditional clothes.Year 1882 is the starting of Bugis placement in Tawau.It is because of the land opening for coconut plantation in Tawau.Refering to analysis,Bugis in Sabah can be divided into three groupMelayu berdarah bugis(10%),Bugis Bertaraf warganegara(30%),and Bugis Indonesia Bukan Bertaraf Warganegara(60%)

Sanggar peppek(smash banana) is one of the bugis tribes traditional food.It is suitable to eat at anytime.It is almost similar to pisang goreng(fried banana).It is always being eaten with sambal lada.The shape of sanggar peppek that way is because after it being half fried,the banana will be smash until it turn flat.Then the banana will be fried again.

Beside fishery,cocoa also the main economy in Tawau.Almost everywhere you can see cocoa plantation,from Kalabakan until Merotai.Tawau is the third largest producer and named the cocoa capital of Asia in the 80s.Malaysian cocoa seeds are the best in Asia.There also a place Cocoa Village that can be found in Tawau.

Fishery is one of the main economy in Tawau because it was located near the sea the are abundance with marine lifes.Tawau are not just have many types of fishes that are sold but also the grades of the fish that are catches are high-grades.There are many types of fishes that are sold such as stingray,pomfret fish,red snapper and spanish mackerel.Eventhough there are many fishes types of fish but the main marine catches are prawn,tiger prawn to be exactly.The tiger prawn are mainly are being export tho neighbouring country such as Singapore,Japan and Hong Kong.Eventhough the marine catches that are sold is high-grade but it still can be bought with an affordable price.

Yellow rice or nasi kuning is also one of the special food that can be found in Tawau.It is basically a common rice but just a different colour.The rice turn yellow because it was cooked with coconut milk and turmeric.Nasi kuning also come in form of cone that are called tumpeng and usually eaten during special events.It is usually served with a a variety of side dishes such as serunding(relish of gratted coconut and spices),fried chicken or perkedel(potato fritters)

One the food that are not to be miss when visiting Tawau is kapurung.It is some type of soup that are made from melted sago flour that are being shape into round by using chopsticks.It is also are combinde with different types of ingredient depend on the apetite of the cooker because it is just suitable with any kind of ingredient.It is a traditional food from Bugis tribes(one of the main tribes in Tawau).Eventhough its appearance are not so appealing but it has a very delicious flavour.

The picture above shows one of the famous snack in Tawau.It is called amplang.It is basically a snack that a made from fish.The types of fish that are likely to be used to make this snack a spanish mackerel along with the other ingredients.It shape are basically square with with colour but there a some made with a cylinder shape but there are no difference between the two except for it shape.

One of the popular places among locals in Tawau are Tawau Hill National Park which is located 24 km from Tawau town.It is accessible by road transport.It gained it popularity are because it has a nice picnic areas,a vast campsite and cabins and also the main attraction is the beautiful waterfall that can be found there which are connected with Tawau River that flow across the park.The waterfalls also created a natural flowing pond   which attracted swimmers.

BUKIT GEMOK(FAT HILL)

About 11km from Tawau,there are an interesting place called Fat Hill or the local citizen known as Bukit Gemok.It is also attracted many nature lovers especially hikers and climbers because they can climb the Fat Hill to enjoying their hobby while mantaining their body in good shape.During 1984.Fat Hill was declared a forest reserve covering 4.45km.It is about 428metre above sea level.

  Sabah...The second largest country in Malaysia.....It is known for the beautiful nature that can be found in Sabah....But today I won't talk about Sabah......But I'll talk specifically about a town named Tawau...Tawau is the third largest town in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.

   As you can see at the map above,Tawau are situated in the south-east coast of Sabah and is surrounded by the ocean and it affect directly to the types of economy in Tawau.Tawau main town are divided by three section.Fajar,Sabindo and Tawau Lama.Eventhough the main town are not advanced like Kuala Lumpur but it is still fun to visit.The main town also is rather small but because of its small size,all the important facilities such as hospital,federal house and post office are located near each other and it makes easier to move from places to places.There are also many types of races and religion in Tawau.For example Bugis,Jawa and Bajau.
